About Nic
Hi, I’m Nic or Nikki – the eyes and heart behind Nic’s Pics Photography.
My love for photography began back when I got my first Hanimex 110 camera (I was probably all of 10-12 years old) & I loved it. I then went on and studied photography during 6th form – back in the days of darkrooms and film development. What started as a fascination with symmetry and landscapes gradually grew into something more. I created the first Nic’s Pics page in 2015 and even had a few of my images featured & sold in a gallery. But at that time, it was still just a hobby.
Everything changed in 2021. Life threw me a serious curveball – I was forced out of work to focus on recovering from a trauma and the PTSD that came with it. Needing a creative outlet, I took the plunge into studying photography more seriously, enrolling in a diploma course. I initially turned to truck photography, drawing on my many years working in the transport industry – a world I deeply missed. But unfortunately, the very industry I turned to for healing brought fresh challenges. Some toxic competitiveness and personal attacks pushed me further into burnout. Including having to restart my original Nic's Pics Photography Facebook page from scratch.
That difficult experience led me to shift gears – into the world of car photography. And honestly, I haven't looked back. The enthusiasm, support, and joy I’ve found among classic car owners, car lovers, and fellow photographers have been amazing. The passion in this community is infectious, and I’ve loved getting to know so many people through events like Beach Hop and AmeriCarna – which quickly became highlights of my year.
My approach to photography is a little different. I shoot everything in RAW format, and process each image individually to bring out its best. I’ve tried batch editing and automated processes, but they never feel right to me. Each photo deserves attention to detail, and I love learning new tools and tricks in Photoshop to really make every shot pop. Yes, it’s a slower process – but it’s one that reflects my style and values.
These days, I continue to navigate life with PTSD and fibromyalgia. Some days are tough, but getting behind the camera is still one of my greatest joys. Photography keeps me connected, creative, and constantly learning.
Thanks for following my journey – and supporting a passion that’s become so much more than just a hobby.
